LAMATA: Redefining transportation architecture for excellence

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority is the transport planning, implementing, regulating and franchising authority of the Lagos State Government.

LAMATA’s major projects have significant public transport components and high impact on the well-being of the people. The projects are the Bus Rapid Transit; BRT; the reconstruction of the Lagos – Badagry Expressway into a tenlane highway with dedicated lanes for BRT service and a light rail corridor in the central area of its cross-section; the reconstruction of Ikorodu Road from Mile 12 to Ikorodu Town Roundabout and the Bus Terminal project. These projects have changed the landscape and dynamics of transportation in Lagos State.

To say the least, LAMATA is a perfect example of a successful Public-Private partnership. Its investments and interventions have reduced the transportation burden of Lagosians across state. LAMATA’s infrastructures have also set standards in modern transportation facilities. These have brought direct and indirect benefits to Lagos residents by reducing commuting time, reducing traffic stress and promoting trade and commerce by attracting more people to the city.
